Browns Notes from Training Camp Day 3

Posted July 28th, 2014 @ 3:43pm

- The loudest cheer of the day from the sold out crowd came on an interception from rookie CB Justin Gilbert. Gilbert with pads on looks much bigger then most of the other cornerbacks on the roster. His speed also catches your eye right away.

- Gilbert caught a few kick offs during practice but Coach Pettine said that Gilbert would only be used in that type of situation only in an emergancy. But Gilbert said he'd love the opportunity.

- 3rd year saftey Johnson Bedemosi threw his shoulder into a defenseless receiver late in practice and Coach Pettine instantly told him that's not the way to treat a teammate. Pettine wants his team to be tough but to take care of each other.

- The team was in pads today but the hitting was minimal. On Thursday the team will tackle during goal line drills. This has the players excited as Im sure the coaches are a tad nervous. Pettine said that ever stop he has made in the NFL there has been some form of tackling. It hasnt happen out here in Berea in at least 8 years.

- Play of the day had to go to rookie LB Chris Kirksey who picked off Johnny Manziel during a drill late in practice and returned it for what whould have been a touchdown.

-Manziel struggle again on a day that felt more like October then July. Manziel seemed to struggle within the pocket as the game is speeding up. This all could be just getting aclimated to the professional game and learning the scheme. But it's obvious to most observers that Brian Hoyer is leading early on during this camp.
