September 5th is National Cheese Pizza Day!

Yes it's a real day! And why shouldn't we celebrate Cheese Pizza; Americans eat approximately 350 slices of pizza per second!

Pizza started as peasant meal in Italy in the 1800's, but all of that changed when Raffaele Esposito created a pizza fit for the King and Queen. His margarita pizza, with white mozzarella cheese, red tomato sauce, and green basil - the colors of the Italian flag - seriously impressing the visiting royalty and instantly turning pizza in fashionable, high class cuisine.

Even though you can put ANYTHING on a pizza, today we celebrate a simple classic: the Cheese Pizza! Whether you make your own or just order out, Happy Cheese Pizza Day to you from everyone here at The Lake!
