(Cleveland) The Cavaliers officially announced that they have signed 55 year old David Blatt to be the team's new head coach.

Blatt will be formally introduced at a news conference on Wednesday, as he is traveling right now.

The 55 year old Blatt most recently coached Euroleague championship contender Maccabi Tel Aviv.  During his six years as head coach, the team won six Israeli Cup Championships and five Israeli League championships.

Blatt also coached the Russian National team. In 2007, he led Russia to a FIBA European Championship.  During the 2012 Olympics, he led Russia to the bronze medal, the only medal the Russian basketball team received since the breakup of the Soviet Union.

Blatt played professional basketball from 1981-1993, mostly for the Israeli league.

After retiring in 1993, he went on to coaching stints in Israel, Greece, Turkey and Russia.  In 1996, he was named Israeli League Coach of the year.

The Boston native says he's very excited to come to Cleveland and lead the Cavaliers as their head coach, and that this is a very proud day for him.
