(Lakewood) - A man killed Monday in a Lakewood fire was well-known in the community.

53-year-old Bob Toomey had one arm and was frequently seen riding his bicycle. Lakewood Fire Chief Scot Gilman confirmed Toomey's identity, but said the cause of death was pending today's autopsy.

The fire broke out around 6:30 AM Monday morning at 2134 Atkins Ave. and was quickly brought under control.

It was contained to one corner of a bedroom in the back of the house.

Gilman tells The Lakewood Patch there was a working smoke detector, but the battery was disconnected.

The cause of the fire is also under investigation.
