(Oberlin) -- Gun owners will be able to pack heat in Oberlin’s city parks.

Oberlin City Council voted 4-3 Monday night to overturn the city's ban on firearms in parks, falling in line with a state law that permits guns in most public places.

Gun rights activists had threatened to sue Oberlin city officials if they didn't revise their law.

Oberlin council members say they'll now petition the Ohio General Assembly and Gov. John Kasich for a law allowing home rule cities like Oberlin to regulate possession of firearms in city parks.
