(Akron) - The University of Akron has named its' new president.  Scott Scarborough has been appointed to a five year term replacing the retiring Louis Proenza in the president's chair.

Former Ohio State head football coach Jim Tressel was among the three finalists for the Akron post.  Tressel remains a finalist at Youngstown State University where he got his start as a college head football coach in the 1980's.

Tressel has been a Vice-President at Akron teh past two years.  Scarborough has been at the University of Toledo the past seven years, the last two of which he spent as a provost.  He begins his new position at Akron July 1.
