In 1982, the English duo Soft Cell had their one and only U.S. hit with "Tainted Love". The song was first a hit in 1981 overseas and was released over here at the start of 1982. The song took half a year to chart during the summer of 1982 and at the time, held a record-breaking 43 week run inside the Billboard Hot 100.
Although the duo would have many other hits in their native U.K., "Tainted Love" would prove to be their only hit over here in America. But what an enduring song it has become.
