A man from Maine was arrested after he allegedly robbed a bank and then fled in a car with his father, who had no idea what his son had just done. Keith Tilton dropped his 39-year-old son, Joseph Donald Tilton, off at a bank in Lewiston thinking he was just going inside to cash a check.
Instead, Joseph walked up to a teller and demanded money. After she initially refused, telling police she thought Tilton was joking, he jumped over the counter and grabbed cash out of the register. He then left the bank with over $600 and got back into his father's car.
Keith dropped his son off at another part of town and then started driving back towards the bank. As he approached, he noticed multiple police cars parked outside the branch. When he drove past the building, the teller recognized his car and pointed it out to the officers. They pulled Keith over a block later and he realized that his son was likely responsible for robbing the bank.
Authorities tracked down Joseph and took him into custody. They were unable to recover the money he was accused of stealing and he refused to tell investigators where it was. He is being held on charges of theft and robbery, and a judge set his bail at $50,000.
His father is not facing any charges because authorities believe that he had no knowledge of his son's alleged criminal actions.
