UK Pulls Off First Socially-Distanced Concert

The concert business has basically been at a standstill since the coronavirus hit, but folks in the UK may have found a way to bring back live music, while still keeping people safe.

The first socially-distanced show took place Tuesday on the grounds of Gosforth Park in Newcastle upon Tyne, England. Dubbed the Virgin Money Unity Arena, the outdoor venue featured 500 separate elevated platforms, each placed two meters apart, with a maximum of five people allowed inside each platform.

Those attending the first-two sold-out Sam Fender shows were encouraged to wear masks, and keep to their own sections, and it seems as though everything went off successfully.

And Fender’s show isn’t the only one planned. Van Morrison is scheduled to perform there on September 3rd, with Maximo Park and comedians Jimmy Carr and Bill Bailey also confirmed for gigs.
